Description

Studio portrait of 6007 Private (Pte) Richard Burkett, 11th Battalion. A farmer of Narrogin East, Western Australia, prior to enlistment, he embarked from Fremantle aboard HMAT Miltiades on 7 August 1916 for Plymouth, England. He joined his battalion on the Western Front, France, on 26 December 1916. Pte Burkett was killed in action near Bullecourt, France, on 6 May 1917. He has no known grave and he is memorialised on the Villers-Bretonneux Memorial, France. He was aged 32 years. His younger brother, 1632 Pte Charles Wesley Burkett, died of wounds received in action on 16 September 1916. (See H06505)
