AUSTRALIAN WOMEN'S ARMY SERVICE PERSONNEL, SETTLING IN AT THE NEWLY CONSTRUCTED AWAS BARRACKS IN BUTIBUM ROAD, MAKING BEDSIDE MATS BY SPLITTING HESSIAN BAGS IN TWO AND BINDING THE EDGES. THE GIRLS ARE MEMBERS OF A GROUP OF 342 AWAS WHO TRAVELLED ON THE MV DUNTROON FROM AUSTRALIA TO LAE TO TAKE UP VARIOUS APPOINTMENTS. IDENTIFIED PERSONNEL ARE:- CORPORAL J. ANDREWS (1); CORPORAL M. FARR (2); PRIVATE J. SKEEN (3).
