LAE, NEW GUINEA. 1945-05-07. AUSTRALIAN WOMEN'S ARMY SERVICE PERSONNEL CARRYING TRUCKS TO THEIR SLEEPING QUARTERS SHORTLY AFTER ARRIVAL AT THE NEWLY CONSTRUCTED AWAS BARRACKS IN BUTIBUM ROAD. THEY ARE MEMBERS OF A GROUP OF 342 AWAS WHO TRAVELLED ON THE MV DUNTROON FROM AUSTRALIA TO LAE TO TAKE UP VARIOUS APPOINTMENTS. IDENTIFIED PERSONNEL ARE:- CORPORAL N. WRAY (1); PRIVATE P. O''LOUGHLIN (2); PRIVATE H. GAVEL (3); CORPORAL M.H. LUCAS (4).
