BOUGAINVILLE. 1945-05-23. JEEPS AND TRAILERS CROSSING THE POROREI RIVER, TAKING SPARE PARTS FOR REPAIR WORK ON A MATILDA TANK OF B SQUADRON, 2/4 ARMOURED REGIMENT, WHICH HAD A MECHANICAL BREAKDOWN WHILE SUPPORTING THE ADVANCE OF 58/59 INFANTRY BATTALION ALONG THE BUIN ROAD. THE CORPS OF AUSTRALIAN ELECTRICAL AND MECHANICAL ENGINEERS MECHANICS ARE ALWAYS WELL FORWARD WITH THE TWO SQUADRONS OF MATILDA TANKS WHICH ARE SUPPORTING THE INFANTRY DRIVE. IDENTIFIED PERSONNEL ARE:- LIEUTENANT H. ANDREWS (1); CRAFTSMAN E.C. VICKERS (2); TROOPER R.W. CURRIE (3); TROOPER W.T. THOMSON (4).
