TAMIGUDU, NEW GUINEA. 1944-05-12. NATIVES PACK FRUIT GROWN AT NATIVE GARDENS INTO CONTAINERS FOR TRANSPORTATION BY BARGE. THE BARGE, CHARTERED FROM LAE BY THE AUSTRALIAN ARMY SERVICE CORPS, TRANSPORTS FRUIT AND VEGETABLES WEEKLY TO THE DETAIL ISSUE DEPOT AT LAE WHO DESPATCH THE FRUIT TO THE 2/7TH GENERAL HOSPITAL AND PROVIDE ANY SURPLUS TO UNITS IN THE AREA. THE FRUIT AND VEGETABLES ARE GIVEN IN EXCHANGE FOR ARMY RATIONS UNDER BARTERING ARRANGEMENTS MADE BETWEEN THE LULUAI (VILLAGE HEAD) AND THE AUSTRALIAN NEW GUINEA ADMINISTRATIVE UNIT.
