Description

Ronsi, Burma. c. 1943. Australian and British prisoners of war (POWs) laying track on the Burma-Thailand railway. The POWs working on the railway in Burma were all members of A Force, designated by the Japanese as either Group 3 and Group 5. Most of the men in the track laying teams came from Anderson Battalion, part of "A" Force and Williams Force, which came from Java. There was also another track laying and general line maintenance group of Americans under Captain A. F. Fitzsimmons. They were a sub-group of Black Force from Java. Ronsi is approximately sixty kilometres south of Thanbyuzayat, or 354 kilometres north of Nong Pladuk (also known as Non Pladuk). (Donor A. Seary)
