Description
Outdoor portrait of 469 Trooper Joseph Charles Radnell, 3rd Light Horse Regiment from Tarnagulla, Victoria who enlisted as Private Charles Radwell. A 24 year old miner prior to enlisting on 17 August 1914, he embarked for overseas with C Squadron from Hobart on 20 October 1914 aboard HMAT Geelong. He served at Gallipoli and in Egypt where he was awarded a Military Medal for his brave actions on the night of 3/4 August 1916 when he charged a small party of Turks and killed two. He was killed in action on 4 August 1916 in the Canal Zone, Egypt and is buried in the Kantara Military Cemetery, Egypt. [See also image P00342.002]
