Description

Collection relating to the United Nations Assistance Mission for Rwanda (UNAMIR) of Flying Officer (later Squadron Leader) Lyndall Wendy Taylor (later Moore), Australian Medical Support Force, Rwanda, 1994-1995.

The collection consists of a collage personal photographs and United Nations memorabilia mounted on a large Australian Army poster commemorating the 50th anniversary of United Nations peacekeeping operations. The college relates to Flying Officer Taylor's deployment as a Royal Australian Air Force nursing officer with the Australian Medical Support Force to UNAMIR in 1994 to 1995. Attached to the poster, anti-clockwise from top left, are: 1. United Nations brassard worn by Taylor; 2. photograph of colleagues traveling to Kigali Airport in the back of a truck (taken during Taylor's first short leave, around 18-21 April 1995); 3. photograph of Anzac Day cenotaph at base of living quarter stairs; 4. photograph of Taylor in AUSMED Intensive Care with 3-4 day old baby with major illness; 5. photograph of Taylor with Leading Aircraftman Haydn Cohen; 6. photograph of Taylor with Flying Officer Jackie Hardy and two children from a local orphanage (the Mother Theresa Orphanage was 'adopted' by both Australian contingents in Rwanda); 7. photograph of Flying Officer Hardy with young Rwandan patient; 8. photograph of Leading Aircraftwoman Anne Croft with young baby patient; 9. photograph of Captain Suzie Busch carrying a young patient Rwandan style. Also attached to the poster is the cap badge worn by the donor in Rwanda.
