Australian and New Zealand five dollar coin set commemorating the 75th anniversary of Gallipoli : Albert Tull
A pair of five dollar gold commemorative coins issued in 1990 to mark the 75th anniversary of the Gallipoli landings. The New Zealand coin shows the reigning monarch on the obverse (QEII). The reverse shows a soldier standing in full World War One kit in front of the New Zealand flag. The Australian coin also shows the reigning monarch (QEII) on the obverse, with an image of Private Simpson and his donkey with wounded soldier on the reverse. Both coins are encapsulated in clear plastic containers which have been fitted into an olive green flock and plastic base, which is fitted into a beige, vinyl covered, hinged presentation case. The case top shows the rising sun badge and the New Zealand badge in gold print. Also enclosed is a small parchment titled 'IN RECOGNITION'. The interior of the lid is lined in white satin and printed with the text 'THE ANZAC 75TH ANNIVERSARY. 25TH APRIL, 1990. Royal Australian Mint and Reserve Bank of New Zealand'.
Associated with Albert Tull, born at Stroud, New South Wales (NSW) on 20 September 1896. He enlisted in the AIF at West Maitland, NSW, on 20 March 1916 as 3492 Private Albert Tull and arrived in England on 29 January 1917. He joined 3 Battalion, 1 Division AIF, and sailed for France on 11 September 1917. He returned to Australia on 2 September 1919 and was discharged from the army on 10 October 1919. He died on 19 November 1998 aged 102 years.
