3/4812 Lieutenant Rex Rowe (left), of Redcliffs, Vic, 2 Field Troop, Royal Australian Engineers (RAE) and an unidentified British sapper (right) standing on the boom of a tracked excavating shovel as they inspect a broken cable. The excavating shovel is filling dump trucks with laterite which is used as surface coating on a 9000 yard section of new roadway in Northern Malaya.
