Dalila and Maria washing clothes, Dili, East Timor
Description
Depicts two Timorese women, Dalila and Maria, washing clothes in Dili, East Timor. Sharpe was fascinated by the activities of the women in East Timor. This is a page from the large sketchbook no. 2. Sharpe produced 4 sketchbooks of drawings while in Darwin and East Timor. Wendy Sharpe was appointed official artist in December 1999, travelling to Darwin, where she attended briefing sessions with Australian INTERFET personnel. In East Timor she was attached to the Army History Unit in Dili, where she recorded the work of the Australian peacekeepers and East Timorese people.
