Studio portrait of twin brothers NX39979 Corporal (Cpl) Richard Thomas Crofts (left) and NX39980 Trooper (Tpr) Ernest Edward 'Jack' Crofts, both of Parkes, NSW. Both brothers enlisted in Paddington, NSW on 28 July 1941and both served with the 2/6th Armoured Regiment. Tpr 'Jack' Crofts was killed in action when his tank was blown up by a land mine on the Sanananda Track in Papua on 12 January 1943, aged 30. Those who were not killed in the blast were later shot as they attempted to leave the tank. Cpl Richard Crofts survived the war and was discharged on 13 November 1945.
