Outdoor portrait of Prisoners of War (POW) in German POW camp at Nurnberg [Nuremburg]. Identified back row third from left, 3167 Lance Corporal (Lcpl) Herbert Ellis Charles Eastaugh, 52nd Battalion, from Auburn, Victoria; back row fourth from left, 1882 Private (Pte) Hamilton Warrell, 13th Battalion, from Sydney NSW and back row far right 4378 Pte Walter Edward Tilley, 54th Battalion, from Sydney NSW. Lcpl Eastaugh enlisted on 6 July 1915 and embarked for overseas on 16 October 1915 aboard HMAT Port Lincoln. He was captured at Mouquet Farm, France on 3 September 1916 and held as a POW until repatriated to England in January 1919. He embarked to return to Australia in April 1919. Pte Warrell enlisted on 1 September 1915 and embarked for overseas on 17 December 1915 aboard HMAT Berrima. He was reported missing after 8 August 1916 and later confirmed as a POW. He was repatriated to England in December 1918 and embarked to return to Australia in April 1919. Pte Tilley enlisted on 14 September 1915 and embarked for overseas on 20 December 1915 aboard HMAT Aeneas. He was captured at Laventie, France on 20 July 1916 and held as a POW until he was repatriated to England in December 1918. He embarked to return to Australia in February 1919. One of a series of over 400 photographs sent by Australian POWs in German camps to Miss M. E. Chomley, Secretary, Prisoners Department, Australian-British Red Cross Society, London.
