1940 Pattern green steel helmet : Netherlands East Indies Forces
Description
Netherlands East Indies Forces (Dutch) 1940 pattern green steel helmet with rolled over edge. The helmet is complete with black and brown leather and wool felt liner that has been riveted to helmet with 8 copper rivets. The black leather neck flap has been cut away from the liner and is not with the helmet. The helmet includes a 500mm long plain black leather chin strap.
History / Summary
Associated with VX50279 Lieutenant Michael Laurence Sheehan. Lt. Sheehan served in the 2/6th Independent Company in New Guinea during World War Two. After he was commissioned he commanded No.8 section of the 2/5th Independent Company. In 1943 the unit's title was changed to the 2/5th Cavalry Commando Squadron.
