Hurdcott, Wiltshire, England. 18 December 1918. Exterior view of the guard room of the 12th Training Battalion, 4th Division. Members of the Quarter Guard identified are, Corporal Francis, 51st Battalion (second from left); Sergeant Manfred, 13th Battalion (second from right). Keen competition prevailed amongst various companies as to who supplied best turned out guard for week for which a prize of tobacco, value one pound, was given. Two best dressed men were always given twenty four hours leave. Turnout generally was very good and guards supplied by the Training Battalion have been complimented by General Sir W. Robertson and Major General Slater, General Officer Commanding Southern Command.
