Description
'War', a bronze bust of Bellona, Roman goddess of war, sculpted by Sir Bertram MacKennal in 1906. Sir Bertram presented the bust to the Commonwealth Government in 1920, and it was displayed in Melbourne in the Parliament building from 1921 until 1926, when it was moved to Canberra. The statue was displayed on Canberra Avenue outside Albert Hall, as seen here, until 1954. In August 1999 the statue was moved to its current position in the Australian War Memorial Sculpture Garden, near the Lone Pine.
