Japanese rubberised canvas pouch containing bleach : Private S H B Smith, 10 Field Ambulance
Description
Japanese Army khaki rubberised canvas pouch containing bleach. Sewn onto the top of the back of the pouch are two short lengths of cotton tape and a length of shoelace-type cord. There are Japanese characters on the back, lower front, and inside the top of the flap. The Japanese manufacturer's name has not been translated.
History / Summary
Associated with V132198 Private S H B Smith, 10 Field Ambulance. He picked up the pouch close to the beach at Lae, New Guinea, in the latter months of 1943. The pouch was also found to contain an original handwritten copy of a poem written by Herbert (Bert) Beros.
