Union Jack used for fundraising in northern New South Wales during the First World War
Description
Union Jack flag used during fundraising concerts in the Lismore district in northern New South Wales.
History / Summary
This Union Jack was used by sisters Rita and Ruby Griffin during fundraising concerts in the Lismore district of northern NSW during World War One. Both women were employed as dressmakers, but Rita was also a musician and while she played the piano and sang patriotic and popular songs, her sister Ruby would urge the audience to fill the lines of the Union Jack with coins.
