Study for Robert Horton
Description
Robert joined the Light Horse in Gladstone, but switched to the infantry. He landed at Gallipoli with A Company, 9th Battalion in 1915. He was evacuated to a Cairo hospital with a fever and dysentery. Robert later rejoined his unit in Egypt and then went to France where he served until the end of the war with the rank of corporal. On the ship from Belgium to England he became ill with influenza and spent months in a British hospital before returning to Australia. Depicts a study for portrait of Robert Horton, 9th Battalion, on pilgrimage for the 75th anniversary of the landing at Gallipoli.
