Description

Tokyo, Japan. January 1955. Possibly the best known name band in Australia, Graham Bell's Australian Jazz Band came to the Far East under the auspices of the Australian Army to entertain troops in Japan and Korea. The band has returned to Australia but Mr Bell himself, together with Miss Yolanda, the band's 18 year old Ceylonese vocalist, has remained in Tokyo for a short working holiday. Their musical commitments keep them busy during the evenings but their days, when rehearsals are over, are free, and the couple are taking advantage of the opportunity to make themselves familiar with Tokyo. During a sight seeing excursion they found themselves outside the Kabuki-Za in Z Avenue. The famous centre of Kabuki was a novel and attractive sight to Mr Bell and Yolanda who spent a long time examining the illustrations depicting traditional Kabuki scenes which frame the entrance to the building.
