Aitape, New Guinea. 1945. Australian troops have now been issued with flamethrowers. A group of officers, and men standing thirty feet away from the position, where Sergeant Frank Belling of Lockhart, NSW, is testing this flamethrower, had to move backward away from the terrific side heat emanated by the burning fuel.
