Description

M1D Garand semi automatic sniper rifle. Receiver stamped US RIFLE CAL 30 M1. SPRINGFIELD ARMORY and the serial number. It is complete with a leather cheek rest, muzzle M2 flash, hider, fitted side mounted telescopic sight and a sling.

History / Summary

This type of rifle was extensively used by American forces during the Korean War. This is the second issue version of the Garand intended for sniping, the M1E8 (M1D) was fitted with a Sight M73 in a block mount, in which guise it was known as the Sight M81 (with crosswires) or the Sight M82 (with post). The M1E8 was renamed M1D in June 1944.
