Pilot Officer James Clark
Description
Head and shoulders portrait of James Clark DFC AFC MID, service no. 402439. As Squadron Leader with 460 Squadron RAAF Clark was leading a force of eighteen Lancasters despatched by the Squadron on a mission to Essen. The total number of aircraft engaged on the mission was 550. Clark’s aircraft, PB 542, was shot down on 12 December 1944 at 19.40 hrs at Bergerhausen near Essen by flak and burst into flames on impact. He is buried in the Reichswald Forest war Cemetery near the town of Cleve.
