Boarding a RAAF Caribou aircraft at Nui Dat for transport to Vung Tau are troops of C Company of 4RAR/NZ (ANZAC) (The ANZAC Battalion comprising 4th Battalion, The Royal Australian Regiment and a component from the 1st Battalion, Royal New Zealand Infantry Regiment). The move to Vung Tau, which has become the main base for the marshalling of units for embarkation and the closing down of unit stores ready for shipment back to Australia, ended the combat role in Vietnam for these troops. Other troops in the Battalion moved to Vung Tau by road convoys and RAAF helicopters before returning to Australia. The transport of Australian soldiers home was shared between the RAAF, civilian aircraft, ships from the Australian National Line (ANL) and Royal Australian Navy.
