Struggling through a mangrove swamp during Operation Portsea is 2781995 Private Bernd Wesiak of Merrylands, NSW, a soldier of A Company, 6th Battalion, The Royal Australian Regiment (6RAR). In the background is Sergeant Stewart Smerdon of Grovely, Qld. The Company was chasing the enemy from hideouts along a branch of the Song Rai River.
