Type 89 Grenade Discharger
Description
Type 89 Grenade Discharger. Constructed of steel in the form of a rifled barrel attached to a pedestal and curved butt plate. The trigger which cocks and fires in one operation protrudes through a lengthwise slot in the pedestal. A range adjusting assembly with a knurled knob is attached to the base cap of the barrel. A range scale is attached to the pedestal stem.
History / Summary
This weapon was often referred to as the 'knee mortar' but if fired by this method it would cause considerable injury. The curved butt was designed to be fired from the ground.
