Description

The motto of the Signal Corps is "Swift and Sure", but it takes a lot of keeping up to when the snow falls so heavily that it breaks the communication cable. Members of the 3rd Battalion, The Royal Australian Regiment (3RAR) Signal Corps are on the job at all times ensuring that the lines of communication are kept open. Pictured here, left to right: Private (Pte) B J Goldsmith of Ashfield, NSW; Pte R K Dwell of Albury, NSW, and Pte J Vickars of Redland Bay, Qld. Note the tents in the background and the snow covered Korean countryside. 2400011 Pte Bernard James Goldsmith had previously served in the Second World War (WWII) and was killed in action during the battle of Kapyong, on 24 April 1951.
