Description

A group of Japanese wharf labourers prepare to load a 17-pounder anti-tank gun onto the US troopship Aiken Victory, at Kure docks. They are attaching cables to the gun, so that a crane can transfer it from the dock to the ship. An official Australian Army photographer, probably 31932 Private (Pte) Ian 'Robbie' Robertson, is standing on the dock (centre) watching the loading. The building in the background contains offices and stores of the Docks Operating Company. Along with the 3rd Battalion, The Royal Australian Regiment (3RAR) troops and weapons, the vehicles are to be transported to Pusan and the war in Korea.
