Description
Annotated typed transcripts of despatches from press reporters David McNicoll, Jeffrey K. Smith and Alan Underwood to newspapers and agencies in Australia describing the executions, and events surrounding them, of five convicted Japanese war criminals (Lieutenant General Nishimura Myamoto, Warrant Officer Ipachi Myamoto, Yatuka Suzuki, Tamao Shinohara and Takamiko Tsuaki) on Los Negros Island, near Manus Island, in June 1951. They had been condemned the previous year in an Australian war crimes trial on Manus. The executions were carried out by 1 Australian War Crimes Section, commanded by Lieutenant Colonel Norman Quinton.
