Papers of No.788 Sergeant James Stewart (24 Battalion), comprising: (i) diary for 1918 with brief entries describing front line action in France, particularly in January, March and August 1918, including an injury from gas attack; (ii) personal letters to a friend/fiance Elsie, in England, 1917-18; (iii) paybooks and service papers, especially relating to his recovery from a serious wound suffered in 1916; (iv) photographs of and including Stewart and fellow unit members in England, 1916-18; (v) printed material relating to 24 Battalion and a visit by the French Prime Minister, 1917.
