Dutch New Guinea. Amphibious craft have been a feature of Allied landing operations in the South West Pacific area. The landing vehicle tracked (LVT), Water Buffalo, were used during the Biak landing. Men clamber down the side of a landing ship, tank (LST), using the scaling net, into an LVT armed with .50 calibre machine gun forward and a .30 calibre.
