History / Summary
500 Corporal Fred Bertram Ellis, from Rosewater, South Australia enlisted in the Australian Imperial Force on 8 December 1914, aged 29. Initally serving with C Squadron, 11 Light Horse Regiment he embarked for service in Egypt and Gallipoli in June 1915 aboard HMAT Medic. He transferred to 4 Battalion, Imperial Camel Corps and was killed in action at the Battle of Amman in Egypt on 22 March 1918. He is buried in the Damascus War Cemetery. He was one of three sons of Arthur and Margaret Ellis who died during the First World War.
