The RAN guided missile destroyer HMAS Perth (II) D38 is engaged in Operation Sea Dragonwith the US Seventh Fleet, just north of the Demilitarised Zone (DMZ) of Vietnam. The operations are aimed at destroying waterborne logistic craft taking supplies from North Vietnam into the south. Here Lieutenant Derek Anthony Caton, of Fulham, SA, peers out through the compass on the upper deck. Recently, HMAS Perth was shelled while making a run against enemy gun emplacements, and was hit on the aft gun mount.
