Description
LAE SALAMAUA. ISOLATED. ONE OF THE BEACHES NORTH WEST OF LAE WHERE AUSTRALIAN TROOPS HAD MADE THEIR HAPPIEST LANDING OF THE NEW GUINEA WAR. HARD UP AGAINST THE BEACH IS A LANDING CRAFT FROM WHICH SOLDIERS, TRUCKS, JEEPS, ARTILLERY AND STORES WERE LANDED QUICKLY. IN THE FOREGROUND PIONEERS ARE PLACING FIRM MATERIAL ON THE SOFT SAND TO PERMIT THE PASSAGE OF VEHICLES IN FRONT OF THE LANDING CRAFT.
