Description
Pinas Bay, Mexico. c. 14 December 1914. The Japanese battleship Hizen, which along with armoured cruisers Asama and Idzumo, had been sent from the Marshall Islands in search of the German fleet, at anchor with the crew massed on deck. The Japanese squadron had met up with the HMS Newcastle and they then made a rendezvous with HMAS Australia. The squadron then proceeded to the Galapagos Islands, detaching HMS Newcastle along the way, when just before entering the Gulf of Panama they heard of the action in the Falklands with the German fleet.
