Description
German Army troops examine a British Army B.L. 6 inch 26 CWT howitzer battery they had captured in the Kemmel area. The barrel of the gun has been blown in half, exposing the wire barrel construction, and exposing the air cylinders on either side of the buffer and recuperator assembly. Note also the wheels have been smashed and are lying on each side of the howitzer. Each of the wheels is partly fitted with pedrails or ‘girdles’ which were fitted to the rim to facilitate travel over soft ground. The wheel nearest the viewer has clearly had its spokes blown off.
