"You betcha digger!"
Description
Illustration published for the cover of the 1944 Army Christmas Book. Original illustration with editorial and publishing notes in the margin. Depicts two servicemen, one wears a tin helmet and a smile of camaraderie across his face; he uses the end of his cigarette to light the cigarette of another with a bandage around his head. The caption implies the wounded soldier had asked his fellow soldier for a light. The use of the term 'digger' references a long tradition of camaraderie in the Australian services, dating back to Gallipoli during the First World War.
