WA. Paybook photograph of WX726 Private Jack Kniest Waldeck, 2/11th Battalion, Australian Infantry. Private Waldeck, aged 28, died while defending the island of Crete against the German land and airborne invasion on 23 May 1941. He was the son of Charles Kniest Waldeck and Allison Ruth Waldeck, of Caversham, WA. He is buried in the Suda Bay Cemetery Section 1, Row D, Plot 15.
