NSW. June 1940. Paybook photograph of NX28802 Private Colin John Maxwell, 2/1st Battalion, Australian Infantry. Private Maxwell, aged 19, died while defending the island of Crete against the German land and airborne invasion on 27 May 1941. He was the son of Clarence Bede Maxwell and Violet Maxwell, of Ashfield, NSW. He is buried in the Suda Bay Cemetery Section 1, Row E, Plot 2.
