NSW. Paybook photograph of NX7582 Private Edward Roy Monaghan, 2/1st Battalion, Australian Infantry. Private Monaghan, aged 29, died while defending the island of Crete against the German land and airborne invasion on 20 May 1941. He was the son of Francis and Clara Winifred Monaghan, of Bondi Junction, NSW. He is buried in the Suda Bay Cemetery Section 1, Row C, Plot 12.
