Australia. 29 May 1967. Original Army Public Relations Caption: "These three young ladies are included in the next concert party to tour Vietnam. They are, left to right: Valmai Johnson, Marie Blanche and Cathy Wayne. With them is their chaperone for the trip, Major F. H. J. Mitchell, Staff Officer of Eastern Command." Cathy Wayne was the stage name of Catherine Anne Warnes who in 1969 returned to Vietnam as the lead singer in an Australian pop music group "Sweethearts on Parade". On 20 July of that year she was performing on stage at a United States Marine Corps club when a bullet, fired at an American officer by a disgruntled soldier standing outside, missed its target and killed her instantly. Her body was returned to Australia for burial.
