Phuoc Tuy Province, South Vietnam. April 1970. The winners, Private John Thurgar of Scone, NSW, a member of the 1st Special Air Service Squadron, and Mr Doan Van Sau of Hoa Long village, display their silver trophies and congratulate each other with a handshake after the Long Dien to Baria 5000 metre race run on Hung Vuong day. Twenty five Australians and New Zealanders and twelve Vietnamese took part in the race, which was designed to help foster understanding and co-operation between soldiers of the 1st Australian Task Force (1ATF) base at Nui Dat and people of the province.
