Description

Collection of personal and official records relating to 325 Private Aubrey George Farmer DCM, who served with 3rd Battalion AIF and was Killed In Action on 29 April 1915: two transcripts of undated letters written to Farmer's family, describing personal impressions of Farmer, from a fellow soldier and a civilian who knew of Farmer through a friend. Both descriptions were written after Farmer's death and sent to his family; two illustrated (colour) souvenir postcards sent from Egypt, written by Farmer to his sister, "Kath"; official sympathy letter, dated 10 October 1916, addressed to Farmer's mother, from Minister for Defence George Pearce, mentioning Farmer's Distinguished Conduct Medal(DCM); official letter to Farmer's mother from Officer In Charge of Base Records Australian Imperial Expeditionary Force, dated 12 October 1915, referring to payment owing to Farmer and the citation for Farmer's Distinguished Conduct Medal (DCM), earnt for actions at Gaba Tepe, Dardenelles, during April 1915; news extract: "D.C.M. Hero Killed" relating to Farmer, who had previously been reported as missing; copy of "Military Orders, 1915", containing citation for Farmer's DCM; original envelopes and stamps used by Farmer for sending letters to his family (no letters in collection - they are referred to in postcards).
