Mothers and Widows Badge : Mrs Louisa Shapland
Description
Black ribbon machine embroidered in yellow, white and red with 'Rising Sun' badge, sprays of wattle and 'FOR AUSTRALIA'. Ribbon is held between two white medal bars, the lower of which has two gold seven pointed stars to indicate two sons had been killed. Reverse of upper bar has impressed serial number '28025'.
History / Summary
Worn by the mother of 359 Private Percy Edwin Shapland, 8 Battalion AIF, who died of wounds received at Gallipoli on 4 May 1915 and 968 Private Reginald Reed Shapland, 21 Battalion and 6 Light Trench Mortar Battery, AIF, who was killed in action at Bullecourt on 4 May 1917.
