Description
Singapore General Post Office (GPO) also known as the Fullerton Building. A mixture of military and civilian vehicles - along with reinforcements to the ground floor of the GPO to assist with any bomb damage - can be seen at this busy intersection, indicating that the photograph was taken in mid-late 1941. The prominent Royal Coat of Arms and a pair of flambeau stone castings, the work of Singapore-based Italian sculptor Cav. Rodolfo Nolli can be seen on the building facing the photographer. These were removed by the Japanese during the occupation. Cav. Nolli, an Italian national, was internee in Australia during the war. (Negative by Bottomley).
