Smith & Wesson Model 1874 'Russian' Revolver : Imperial Japanese Army
Description
Smith & Wesson single action, six shot 'Russian' revolver. Break frame action marked 'Smith & Wesson Mod 1875 Russian' and inscribed with an anchor mark with wavy lines. The barrel top rib has the manufacturer's address and patent dates between 1865 - 1877 and 'Reissue July 25, 1871.' The trigger guard has a lower spur. Wood grips (worn) with a chequered centre held to the frame by a single screw bolt.
History / Summary
This pistol was made for the Russian Imperial Army, presumably captured during the Russo-Japanese War of 1904-05, and reissued to the Japanese forces during World War Two.
