Miss Kay Hirst of Brighton, Vic, X-ray technician with the Prince Alfred Australian surgical team operating at Bien Hoa hospital, asked Sergeant Ivan Welsh, an Army linguist of the 1st Battalion, The Royal Australian Regiment (1RAR), to interpret for her when she talked with a small Vietnamese boy nicknamed "Pudden" by the team.
