Australia. C. 1936. Hand tinted postcard commemorating the first voyage of the RAN light cruiser HMAS Sydney II which after commissioning and working up trials sailed from England to Australia via Gibraltar, Gallipoli, Port Said, Aden and Colombo. HMAS Sydney, an oil fired light cruiser, required fewer refuelling stops than the coal fired cruiser HMAS Brisbane (see negative No. P02308.006), which had transported the Sydney's crew to England in July 1935.
