Description
Torres Strait. 1947-09-13. Bathurst class corvette HMAS Warrnambool of the 20th Minesweeping Flotilla at anchor after hitting a mine during minesweeping operations in the defensive minefields laid by HMAS Bungaree during World War 2. The ship is listing to starboard as she takes on water, and she sank two hours after hitting the mine. Note the damage to her upper deck, and the absence of carley floats after the crew abandoned ship.
