Grottaglie, Italy. 1943. Portrait of Flight Lieutenant T. W. Jenkins of Sydney, NSW, Medical Officer of No. 3 (Kittyhawk) Squadron RAAF, and he was the first Australian to set foot in Italy. He preceded the rest of the squadron by eight hours to ascertain medical facilities available for personnel. He was previously a flying doctor in northern areas of Australia and New Guinea.
